The two that are in
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, on November 19, 2026.
That has been the answer since the first trailer, which carried the line “coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S” underneath it, and Rockstar has repeated it in every announcement since. It is one of the few things about this game that has never changed.
What that means for the machine you own
PlayStation 5. Both the standard console and the Pro run it. Rockstar has not published any Pro-specific feature list, so anybody telling you exactly what the Pro adds here is guessing.
Xbox Series X. In.
Xbox Series S. In. This is the one people ask about most, because the S has less memory and a weaker GPU than the X, and developers have to make it work anyway. Microsoft’s certification requires it, and Rockstar has never suggested otherwise. What has not been published is how the two differ in resolution or frame rate, which belongs on the performance page rather than here.
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Out. There is no last-generation version, it has never been announced, and at this point in a generation there will not be one. If that is the console you own, this game needs new hardware.
Handhelds. Nothing announced for any of them, and nothing about the game’s scale suggests one is coming.
What is not confirmed
PC. Rockstar has not announced a PC date. It is the biggest open question about this release and it has its own page.
How the versions differ. No resolution targets, no frame rate targets, no feature comparison between machines. Rockstar has published none of it.
Anything about multiplayer across machines. Single player only, so the question people usually ask next does not apply yet. That is covered on the crossplay page and the online page.
Which one to buy, if you are buying
The honest answer is the one that costs you least.
If you already own either console in the launch pair, that is your answer and you do not need to spend anything. The game is single player at launch, so the usual reason to match your friends’ platform does not apply here.
If you own neither and are buying specifically for this, the tiebreakers are the ecosystem you already have games in, what you can actually get at a sensible price, and the screen you will play it on. Storage matters more than most people expect, which is covered on the file size page, and the drive to buy is on the storage guide.
What should not be a tiebreaker is a resolution or frame rate comparison, because none has been published for this game. Anybody putting one in front of you is comparing other games.
Before launch, whichever you own
Pre-load opens on November 12, 2026 if you have pre-ordered digitally, which is a week of head start on the download. The editions, the bonus and the cancellation terms are on the pre-order page.
